Key point. Lenz is a free AI visibility checker. It asks ChatGPT and Gemini the questions your buyers ask, without using your company's name, and shows how often each engine names you and who it recommends instead. A new account includes one free analysis.
Start your free AI visibility check
When a buyer asks ChatGPT "what's the best payroll tool for a seed-stage SaaS company?", the answer names a few companies and leaves the rest out. Ranking on Google does not tell you whether you are one of them. Lenz does, engine by engine, question by question.
What does the free AI visibility check measure?
It measures whether ChatGPT and Gemini name your company when a prospective buyer asks about your category without naming you. For each engine, your score is the share of that engine's answers that named you: a score of 30% on ChatGPT means ChatGPT named you in 3 of every 10 answers Lenz collected.
For every business an answer names, Lenz also records:
- its position in the answer: first, second, third;
- how it was named: recommended as a top pick, listed as one option among several, or mentioned in passing;
- the tone: positive, neutral or negative;
- a short quote around the name, so any count can be checked against the engine's own words.
How does the check work without using your company name?
Lenz writes buyer questions from your own website and asks them without your name, the way a buyer who has never heard of you would. It works in six steps.
- It reads your website
From your homepage, Lenz proposes your industry, products and services, and business model, and you can correct all three.
- It writes the questions
A language model writes buyer questions from that material, from early research to ready to buy. It is instructed not to put your name, domain or initials in any question.
- You review the list
You can delete, edit or add questions, or upload your own list. The list you approve is exactly what runs.
- It asks ChatGPT and Gemini
Only the question is sent, with the location set to the country you choose and the language set to English. ChatGPT is asked to use web search, so answers reflect what the engine finds today.
- A separate model reads each answer
It lists every business offered as an option, in order. It is not told which business you are, so it cannot lean towards finding you.
- It matches and scores
Lenz matches the names to your company by fixed rules and scores each engine on its own.
What do you get in the free report?
You get a score for each engine, the competitors named instead of you, and the answers question by question. You can download a PDF summary and a spreadsheet (CSV) with one row per question and engine.
| Report section | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Overall visibility | The average of your ChatGPT and Gemini scores |
| Score per engine | The share of each engine's answers that named you, with the count behind it |
| Competitors | The businesses each engine named most, against your own score |
| How you were named | Recommended, listed or mentioned in passing, and the tone |
| Question by question | Each sample question and the businesses each engine named |
| Downloads | A PDF summary and a CSV of every question and engine |

Who is the free AI visibility check for?
Lenz is built for small and mid-sized businesses and funded startups: SaaS, fintech and tech companies, and other growing businesses whose buyers now ask AI before they ask a salesperson.
What does the free check cost?
A new Lenz account includes one free analysis. After that, starting a new analysis or re-running one takes you to book a call with us.
What does the check work with?
Lenz's free report checks ChatGPT and Gemini, the AI assistants buyers use most; the paid version sends an automated weekly report on seven engines: ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude, Grok, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode. It starts from your homepage: Lenz proposes your industry, your products and services, and a short description of your business model, and you can correct all three.
Does Lenz check Google AI Overviews?
Not in the free report: it runs once on ChatGPT and Gemini. The paid version's weekly report adds Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode. For a free reading of Google's AI features, the best source is Google's own: the Generative AI performance report in Search Console counts how often links to your site were shown in those features.
Use the two together. Search Console tells you how often Google showed your pages in its AI features; Lenz tells you whether ChatGPT and Gemini name your company when a buyer asks about your category.
How do you track AI visibility over time?
Track it by re-running the same question list on a schedule and comparing readings, never by trusting a single check. AI answers move on their own, even when nothing on your side has changed.
Google's AI Overviews show how much: "When we checked the same 118 searches three times over two days, only 14 of them returned the exact same set of cited websites each time." So one reading is a snapshot. Save your list in Lenz, re-run it after each change you make, and read the trend across several readings.
How should you read your first AI visibility report?
Read each engine on its own, turn percentages back into counts, and start with the questions where competitors are named instead of you.
- Read each engine separately. ChatGPT and Gemini draw on different parts of the web, so each has its own score and competitor list.
- Turn the percentage into a count. 30% of ten answers is three answers.
- Look at how you were named. A top recommendation and a passing mention are different results.
- List who was named where you were not. That is your shortlist of what to work on first.
- Add questions in your buyers' words. Take three from sales calls, demo requests and support tickets, then re-run the same list.

Frequently asked questions
Is the AI visibility check really free?
Yes. A new Lenz account includes one free analysis. After that, starting a new analysis or re-running one takes you to book a call with us.
Which AI engines does the free check cover?
ChatGPT and Gemini. Each engine gets its own score and its own list of competitors, because they draw on largely different parts of the web.
Does Lenz check Google AI Overviews?
Not in the free report, which runs once on ChatGPT and Gemini. The paid version's weekly report adds Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode. For a free reading, open the Generative AI performance report in Google Search Console, which counts how often links to your site were shown in those features.
Why does Lenz leave my company name out of the questions?
Because your buyers do not know your name yet when they ask. A question that names you mostly tests whether the engine has heard of you; a question about your category tests whether it recommends you to someone who has not.
How long does the check take?
It runs while you wait, and the screen shows progress question by question.
Can I use my own questions?
Yes. Before anything is asked you can delete, edit or add questions, or upload your own list. The list you approve is exactly what runs.
How do I track my AI visibility over time?
Save your question list and re-run the same list on a schedule, so each reading compares like with like. AI answers move between checks even when nothing on your side changed, so judge a trend over several readings, never one.
