How ready is your company for AI search?

Key point. Answer six questions about your site and your company's presence online to get a readiness band and the next steps that fit your answers. It takes about two minutes, and your answers stay in your browser.

The quiz covers six foundations we check first when we look at whether AI search engines such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews can find, read and correctly describe a company. The result is a self-assessment from your answers, not a measurement of what the engines say.

How ready is your company for AI search?

Answer six questions about your site and your company's presence online. You get a readiness band and the next steps that fit your answers. Your answers stay in this browser tab.

Read each question below; every answer you cannot mark as the first option points to a next step in the list after the questions.

Question 1 of 6
Question 1Have you checked what AI engines say when a buyer asks about your category, without naming you?

A buyer asks "which provider should I use?", not "tell me about you". Those answers decide whether you make the shortlist.

Question 2Can the crawlers behind AI search read your site?

OAI-SearchBot, Claude-SearchBot and PerplexityBot are the crawlers ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity use to find pages for search answers. robots.txt, your CDN and your firewall can each block them.

Question 3Do your website, LinkedIn page and directory or review profiles describe your company the same way?

Engines read all of them. An old product name or a past positioning on one profile can end up in the answer.

Question 4Does your home page carry Organization structured data that matches what the page shows?

A JSON-LD block with your name, logo, founders and official profiles gives machines one unambiguous record of who you are.

Question 5Do independent sites mention your company: reviews, articles, comparison lists or directories your buyers read?

When a buyer asks for the best option in a category, engines can draw on what other sites say, not only on your own pages.

Question 6Do you publish anything only you could publish, such as your own data, your method or first-hand customer experience?

Generic advice is already on many other sites. Original material is something an engine cannot get from anyone else.

Your readiness, from your answers

Getting started

The basics that let AI engines find and read you are not in place yet. Start with crawler access and one clear company record; they are quick to check and everything else depends on them.

Partly ready

Some foundations are in place and some are not. Close the gaps below, then check what the engines actually say about your category.

Ready to measure

Your foundations look in place. The open question now is what the engines say when your buyers ask, and how often they name you.

This is a self-assessment from your answers, not a measurement of what AI engines say.

Your next steps

  1. See what ChatGPT and Gemini say about your category: get your free AI visibility report from Lenz, and write your question list with the buyer-question builder.
  2. Paste your robots.txt into the free AI crawler check, then look at your CDN or firewall's AI bot settings.
  3. Line up your company description across your site and profiles, using the entity section of our AI visibility audit guide.
  4. Write your Organization JSON-LD with the free schema generator and validate it.
  5. List the reviews, articles and comparison lists your buyers read, and where you are missing; the audit guide covers third-party citations.
  6. Plan one piece only you can publish: your data, your method or a customer story you may tell. Our AI search visibility funnel explains why engines trust some sources over others.
  7. Work through the full 20-point AI visibility self-audit checklist, or browse all our free tools.

See where you stand first. Lenz, our free analysis, shows how ChatGPT and Gemini answer your buyers' questions.

What does the quiz ask about?

Each question covers one foundation, in the order we check them:

  1. What engines say today: whether you have asked AI engines your buyers' questions, without your name, more than once.
  2. Crawler access: whether the crawlers behind AI search can read your site through robots.txt, your CDN and your firewall.
  3. One company record: whether your site and your profiles describe the same, current company.
  4. Structured data: whether your home page carries Organization markup that matches the page.
  5. Third-party sources: whether independent sites your buyers read mention you.
  6. Original material: whether you publish data, methods or experience only you have.

How is the score worked out?

Each answer scores 2, 1 or 0 points, for a total out of 12. A total of 0 to 4 is Getting started, 5 to 8 is Partly ready, and 9 to 12 is Ready to measure. Every answer below full marks adds its own next step to your list, with a link to a free tool or guide.

The bands are a way to sort next steps, not a grade. Two companies with the same total can need very different work, which is why the step list follows your answers rather than your band.

What should you do after the quiz?

Start at the top of your step list: crawler access and your company record come first because everything else depends on them. For the full set of checks, use our 20-point AI visibility self-audit checklist, which links a free tool or guide to every point.

When the foundations are in place, the open question is what the engines say about your category. Lenz answers that for ChatGPT and Gemini, for free.

Frequently asked questions

Does the quiz check my website?

No. It scores only the answers you give and sends nothing anywhere. To check your robots.txt, use the free AI crawler check. To see what ChatGPT and Gemini say, run a free Lenz report.

Why is llms.txt not one of the questions?

An llms.txt file is optional hygiene, so it would not change your next steps. Our llms.txt guide covers what it does and does not do.

I scored "Ready to measure". Am I visible in AI search?

Not necessarily. The quiz checks foundations; visibility is whether engines name you when buyers ask, and only asking them shows that. Ask each question more than once, because answers change between identical asks.

How this page was made

The six questions follow the order of our AI visibility self-audit checklist, which condenses the procedures we use in our managed AEO work. We used an AI writing assistant (Claude, made by Anthropic) to help draft the text. Dr. Maziar Gomrokchi reviewed the page, and Dr. Med approved it for publication.
